As you know, everyone ages. Similarly, you may have heard that you’ll lose your teeth as you age. However, this isn’t necessarily true. In fact, with proper care, your teeth can last for your entire lifetime. However, if you don’t care for your teeth well, you could lose your teeth.
For example, if gum disease is left untreated, you’ll be more likely to lose teeth. Still, please remember that as you age, you will be more likely to have gum disease. However, it has been proven that if you smoke you’ll be more likely to have gum disease. Unfortunately, these studies are relatively recent, meaning the elderly population could have higher gum disease rates due to smoking while they were younger.
Similarly, if you care for your teeth well from an early age, you’ll be less likely to suffer from tooth loss. Please don’t misunderstand: if you occasionally miss a brushing, you won’t suffer severe consequences. However, if you consistently neglect brushing and flossing, you’ll be more likely to suffer from tooth loss.
Fortunately, there are a few things you can do now to keep your teeth healthy and strong. Arguably, the most important thing you can do is brush and floss. You see, you have good and bad bacteria in your mouth. Good bacteria can keep your mouth clean. Conversely, by brushing and flossing you can remove the bad bacteria that can lead to tooth decay and similar issues.
